Week Two (30/09/2024 - 06/10/24)

During week two we experimented with different bases to build our game mod from, the first was a flappy bird style game in which the player uses directional arrows to move the character controller to a finish line, we experimented with adding obstacles as well as creating multiple scenes as levels and switching between the two created scenes, this was to give us an idea of what we could be working up from and it helped to get ideas flowing through my head, I found this helpful as I could start planning possible routes for my game mod before having to take time to learn C# and create my vision as a playable game. My initial idea was to use this flappy bird game to create a game based upon gravity in which the player would have the ability to change the characters gravity from falling down to falling upwards, the character could perhaps been changed to an astronaut and instead of avoiding pipes like in the original 'Flappy Bird', you would be dodging meteorites to reach your final destination.

The Forum that we were to complete was a useful way of getting to know others and express myself in an easier way than talking to everyone openly although I hope to improve upon my talking and public speaking skills on this course, I feel like it is completely possible for me to do.

During the workshop we looked at simple things such as aspect ratio and sprite sheets, although i understand these topics i found it very useful to look at as a refresher and allowed me to think about it more for my game mod.

During my free time i looked at the 2d platformer base for a potential game mod, I experimented with tile sheets as this is something i have no experience in and it seems easy enough to understand, i even tried adding new sprites to the tile sheet to see how i could potentially create a more in-depth and interesting map if i were to take this route, I am still undecided on which base to use for my mod but i will decide by the end of this week and begin to work on it before the start of week 3.
